A cell’s organelles can be compared to the organs of the body. They each have a particular and vital function to carry out in the cell.

Energy and protein
As well as a cell nucleus, eukaryote cells also have other organelles. Organelles are shielded from the cytoplasm by a membrane (a sort of wall). Some important organelles in a eukaryote cell are the cell nucleus, the ribosomes, the endoplasmic reticulum, the Golgi apparatus and the mitochondria. These organelles carry out functions including the production of energy and protein in the cell.
The cells of algae and plants also contain chloroplasts. Photosynthesis takes place in chloroplasts. There would be no oxygen production on earth without these organelles.
